Brenner scores 3 to beat D.C United, putting Cincinnati in MLS playoffs for first time — Cincinnati Enquirer (@CincinnatiEnquirer) October 17, 2018
The Red Stars have made a few high scoring runs in the regular season, but none that have led them on the road. This run of wins against D.C. United, a quality opponent, gives the teams a chance to build on a strong start to the season with a win at home, and a 2-0-2-0 record against teams in the top half of the table.
That win and the two road wins came with the help of a 3-0 win over DC United in Week 8, which included a brace from Nuri Sahin. We are now two ties in as many games with the Red Stars, but we know that our record is also one game short of an outright win.
Nuri Sahin’s brace against D.C. United is his 2nd in his MLS career, and his first in a road game. He joins LA Galaxy’s Robbie Keane, Minnesota United’s Benny Feilhaber and Portland Timbers’ Diego Valeri as the only players to have 2 braces in MLS, both against D.C. United. Sahin has now scored twice against D.C. United, and the Red Bulls are 1-7-1 in the last 8 meetings.
The Reds are at home, and are one of only two teams to draw each of their last six games. This will be their first game at Red Bull Arena, they are 5-4-3 at home in 2018 and the Reds are 3-0-2-0 at home this season.
