‘The White Lotus’ returns for Season 2, slowed down and sexed up
Season 2 of The White Lotus is returning for a second season on ABC Family on June 6. ABC Family will premiere a two-hour episode titled “Seeds,” that will kick off the new season with a repeat of “The Return” and conclude with “The Final Chapter.” The first episode of the second season will also kick off with the repeat of “The Return” and conclude with “The Final Chapter.”
As you may have noticed, the show has been re-branded as a musical about a woman who becomes a sex slave after being separated from a lover. As an introduction to the upcoming season of the show, The Hollywood Reporter caught up with star and co-creator Sarah Paulson. The Hollywood Reporter has also reached out to ABC Family for comment.
Here’s the scoop.
How did you become involved with the show?
I didn’t know it existed when I became a director. I came to the set, and then it opened up, and from then on, I loved it. I would write scenes. I would direct. I’ve written several episodes. I’ve directed episodes. So, I guess you can say that I’m the star of the show. In my mind, anyway.
What’s the origin of the show?
There was this short video, and it was about a woman who became a sex-slaves to an evil, evil man — very dark-hued and sort of sadistic — after her former lover died.
I loved that story and I thought, “that sounds interesting,” and I immediately started pitching it. I ended up writing the pilot, and my editor liked it, and they put it into the pool. They wanted to see what else was out there. When I saw that they were going to show it, I was excited. So, I approached my then-husband and said, “Let’s do it!” He hadn’t heard me pitch it. I think for a year after, we just played with it. We couldn’t commit to it because we didn’t know if we could make it work.
I’m excited about the second season because I had to slow it
